Children’s Hospital of Colorado - St. Martin’s provides custom sewn pillowcases using 100% cotton fabric with patterns and characters that are appropriate for children ages 4-17. The average stay for a child admitted to Children’s Hospital is 14 days. Kids are allowed to choose their pillowcase empowering them to individualize their hospital space. At the end of their stay, they are encouraged to take their belongings home in their pillowcase.
Here are instructions as to how to sew a custom pillow case. There is also an instructional video from the Crafty Gemini available.
Warm Hearts Warm Babies - St. Martin’s contributes items to Warm Hearts Warm Babies - an all volunteer organization that helps to make life a bit easier for Colorado’s tiniest citizens. The group sews, knits, crochets, and quilts for premature infants and babies in need. The items are donated to hospitals, crisis pregnancy centers, and shelters across much of the state of Colorado. All of the gifts are donated free of charge and 100% of what WHWB receives in donations goes to help the babies. Guidelines for items are very simple.
NOTE: Please do not wash any of the completed blankets. Hospitals and other centers have their own protocols for washing donated items.
